A Great Struggle Existed

a poem by Doug King

A great struggle existed

between the land and the sea

the ground was structured

and the ocean was free

The ocean would play and splash with a tease

but the land held firm

and ignored the sea’s deeds

The land was not interested

in being so carefree

how could one exist

without rigidity

The sea only laughed

at the conservative

saying, “without a little play,

what a way to live.”

And so, it goes on

between the land and the sea

one who is structured

and one who is free
